Our Vävstuga-made rigid heddles are crafted from cherry, a beautiful and strong hardwood that is grown, harvested, and milled in our rural community in western New England. (We're beginning production with a large size; more sizes are in development.)

This rigid heddle expedites weaving the same kind of traditional Sami band that is often woven using the double hole rigid heddle. Ground threads create a plain weave background structure, while pattern threads allow for more ornate bands. Weaving with this heddle creates a split shed with every pick, allowing the weaver to easily pass the shuttle above the pattern threads for three picks, then below the pattern threads for the next three picks. There is no need to pick one of the sheds by hand, or to use additional heddle loops.
